Get up girl
You know those days where you just don’t want to get up? Maybe it’s the rain pitter pattering on the roof that keeps calling you back to your pillow. Maybe it’s because your bed is so cozy that SURELY this is what clouds in heaven feel like. Or maybe it’s because your kids are running around with speeds equivalent to that of the Roadrunner and you know an ACME brick is about to fall out of the sky.
Or maybe, just maybe, it’s because you have the weight of the world resting on your chest and you quite literally can’t put one foot in front of the other because if you do, an avalanche of emotion will follow.
So there you stay .. silent and still, with that beautiful white down comforter pulled right over the top of your head. But can I tell you that this is not the space in which God created you to dwell? One definition of the word “dwell” reads: “to be motionless for a certain interval of time”. MOTIONLESS. Does that resonate?
When Jesus was crucified and laid in a tomb, His body dwelled, or was motionless, for 3 days. But listen, my friend -- On that third day, He got up. He did not remain motionless. He knew there was a broken world that ached for His touch. HE. MOVED. The same goes for you, sister. There is a world out there that desperately needs what you have - that only you can bring.
Your husband needs your cheers and support.
Your children need your love and wisdom.
Your family needs your faith and gentle heart.
Your friends need your experience and listening ear.
Your co-workers need your gift of leadership.
The world needs YOU. We cannot afford for you to stay down much longer.
Sweet sister, how many days have you been motionless? How long have you sat in the shadows?
It’s time. Get up, girl.
This post is dedicated to Ms. Liz. Ms. Liz, thank you for always pushing me to new limits. Thank you for encouraging me to dig deeper and love harder. You are the original Get Up Girl.
